Gender and Sexuality: ECR Networking Day (South West ECRs Only)
Gender and Sexuality: ECR Networking Day (South West ECRs Only)
The British Academy Early Career Researcher Network brings together ECRs across the humanities and social sciences disciplines, regardless of their funding source or background.
The Gender & Sexuality Networking Day will bring together South-West based early career academics who work across the interdisciplinary field of Gender and Sexuality Studies. The aim of the event is to generate a map of potential regional stakeholders who might be interested in the research we do. The event will also seek to share best practice when collaborating with external stakeholders around gender and sexuality issues.
Gender and Sexuality Studies is a burgeoning interdisciplinary field drawing in scholars from the arts, humanities, social sciences, and human sciences. It encompasses longstanding fields such as Gay and Lesbian Studies and Women’s Studies, while also engendering new forms of interdisciplinary exploration that utilise queer, intersectional, psychosocial, feminist, and psychobiological approaches, among others. The networking day is intended to be a broad church for ECRs working in any of these intellectual traditions. We are convinced that working collaboratively with external stakeholders benefits from an interdisciplinary approach to topics in gender and sexuality, and would welcome ECRs interested in forming new research and public engagement collaborations with other ECRs.
The event will feature a session on ‘what works’, why external collaborations are important in gender and sexuality research, and who we know already who is interested in the research we do, and why. The South West, with its largely rural and increasingly older population, is an ideal place to explore new dimensions and applications of gender and sexuality research. The sessions will be facilitated by an independent facilitator and will engage active participation and discussion.
