Networking for Equality in the Workplace: Bringing Research and Industry Together (South West ECRs Only)

Tue 17 Jan 2023 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM GMT University of the West of England, BS16 1QY

The British Academy Early Career Researcher Network brings together ECRs across the humanities and social sciences disciplines, regardless of their funding source or background.

Fairness and diversity bring significant advantages to an organisation e.g., increased profitability, creativity, stronger governance, and better problem solving (World Economic Forum, 2019). This workshop brings together ECRs with an interest in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) and organisations to explore possibilities for future collaborative work with policy and/practice partners (e.g., organisations) as well as helping ECRs disseminate their research to policymakers/organisations.

ECRs with an interest in any of these topics (i.e., protected characteristics according to the Equality Act), independently of discipline (e.g., psychology, sociology, business studies) are welcome to share how their research can be applied to the workplace.

The event will be structured around roundtable discussions on specific EDI topics within the workplace (i.e., gender inequality, LGBTQ+, disability, neurodiversity, race and ethnicity, age). It is hoped discussion will help ECR’s career development to:

  • result in new, more creative/innovative approaches to research,
  • encourage ECRs to network with peers, senior academics, and practitioners,
  • help ECRs explore career opportunities in industry,
  • offer a platform for the development of new collaborations across disciplines and institutions, academia, and industry.
