MOCK: Music and Online Cultures Kernel - South West ECRs Only

Wed 4 Jan 2023 9:30 AM - Thu 5 Jan 2023 4:30 PM GMT Victoria Rooms, University of Bristol, BS8 1SA

The British Academy Early Career Researcher Network brings together ECRs across the humanities and social sciences disciplines, regardless of their funding source or background.

MOCK^ is a one-of-a-kind thinktank and workshop to establish the scope of a research network for the study of music and online cultures. Given the groundswell of interest in the complex interactions between music and the internet—streaming services, social media platforms, virtual concerts, AI-generated music, and more—by scholars at all career levels, it is crucial that such work is nurtured and networked within a supportive and expansive community. This event maps out the foundations—a 'MOCK-up'—of such a network, setting objectives, structures, and funding goals.

A group of Early Career Researchers (ECR's) co-facilitators from music, media, and digital humanities will run the two-day event, featuring online sessions to network with international colleagues and potential partners in industry. There will be sessions on developing event series, a manifesto, and codes of conduct. It also includes practical setup steps, including creating an online social space to act as a virtual hub for the network.

The event is hosted by, Steven Gamble, based at the University of Bristol Department of Music and a member of the British Academy Early Career Research Network. The event is being generously supported by the British Academy Early Career Network. Refreshments will be provided.

British Academy Network members can have their travel and accommodation covered to attend the event . If this would be of interest. Please email your request to ecr_network@thebritishacademy.ac.uk.
