Midlands Hub: Midlands Multidisciplinary Meet-up: Crises

Mon 6 Mar 2023 10:30 AM - 4:30 PM GMT College Court, Knighton Road, Knighton, LE2 3UF

The British Academy Early Career Researcher Network brings together ECRs across the humanities and social sciences disciplines, regardless of their funding source or background.

ECRs from the College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities of the University of Leicester and the BA ECR Network Midlands Hub invite ECRs in the Midlands to the third, in-person Midlands Multidisciplinary Meet-up on the subject of ‘crises’. The aim of this event is to provide ECRs attending with an opportunity to start to develop interdisciplinary thinking and projects, using the subject of ‘crises’ as a starting point.

The meet-up will start with a Keynote talk from Professor Jonathan Rigg, Chair in Human Geography (University of Bristol) and Fellow of the British Academy, entitled: “What Crisis? Whose Crisis? Thinking about crisis from bottom to top in Asia”. Jonathan works on migration and mobility, rural-urban relations, livelihoods, coping and resilience, hazards and disasters and, more broadly, rural development. The Keynote will be followed by an exchange among ECRs, who will be placed at tables with people from various disciplines. Using ‘crises’ as a starting point they will be asked to come up with an interdisciplinary project that combines all disciplines represented in the groups.

The day will end with a session on academic publishing.

Lunch, tea and coffee will be provided.

If you require support in booking travel and accommodation to the event, please email ecr_network@thebritishacademy.ac.uk for more information.

3.30-4.30 Part 3: Session on academic publishing

This session will provide an opportunity to discuss publication ‘strategies’: where, how and when to publish. Which journals or presses, and why these journals and presses. How to think about publishing over a career, especially for ECRs. And when to publish. The discussion will be geared to the needs, concerns and interests of the participants.

4.30: end of the MMM.
