ECR Presentations

Dr April-Louise Pennant is a sociologist and a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow at Cardiff University’s School of Social Sciences . Her research interests focus on education and social justice, and have recently expanded to include history, heritage and memory. At the centre of her work is an ethics of care while uncovering and documenting the narratives and experiential knowledge of Black girls, women, enslaved Africans and their descendants. Her research provides the tools to critically engage with and decentre whiteness.

Dr Josie Henly, is a lecturer in social psychology in the social sciences department, Cardiff University. Their current research explores the experiences of Autistic people from a critical disability perspective. Josie is interested in the role that diagnosis plays in the lives of people with stigmatised conditions, especially those that sit on the cusp between ‘mental health’ and ‘physical health’ such as dementia, autism and ADHD. They are keen to collaborate with scholars and stakeholders on interdisciplinary projects that explore the psychological and social impact of these conditions, particularly in the diagnostic period.

Dr Sofia Vougioukalou is a British Academy Innovation Fellow researching the creative ageing and social prescribing with a view to contributing to policy recommendations for the development of a national framework for social prescribing in Wales. Her work has a particular focus on health inequalities and seeks to understand the specific engagement requirements of older members of under-represented groups in relation to ethnicity, sexuality and disability.
