East Coast OGA Gaffling Hire

You can hire one of the East Coast OGA Gaffling 4.1 dinghies as an OGA member, regardless of your home area.
The boats are based in the Gaffling Haven in Walton on the Naze, courtesy of Hipkin & Oxley boatyard. All of the boats have combination trailers in good serviceable condition and light boards (7 pin). You will have to supply your own tow-car, number plate for the lighting board and appropriate personal flotation device(s).

Charges include insurance and are extremely reasonable:

          Single Day - £15
          Weekend  - £25 
          Longer than a weekend - £10 per day

Gaffling Hire Risk Assessment

You must consider the risks inherent in sailing any small boat, and how they apply specifically to your crew and plans. You will be asked to confirm that you have read and will apply the ECOGA Risk Assessment. You should also consider the risks inherent in trailing and handing the dinghy and trailer ashore.

Terms and Conditions

All hirers must declare:

• I am suitably qualified and/or experienced to operate the vessel or I am a novice and will be accompanied by a suitably qualified and/or experienced person
• I am of at least 18 years of age
• If a minor will be using the vessel:
  • I undertake to ensure adequate supervision of the vessel use ashore and afloat
  • If I am not the parent/guardian I will ensure that I have the parent/guardian permission
• I and/or persons using the vessel do not have any known medical conditions which may affect the ability to sail safely
• Lifejackets/buoyancy aids will be worn at all times whilst underway.
• The vessel will not be sub-let, leased, or loaned to another party during the duration of the hire.
• The vessel is hired on the understanding that the hirer takes all reasonable care of the vessel, both on the water and ashore, during the duration of the hire period.
• If I am towing the Gaffling:
  • I am permitted by my driver’s licence to tow an unbaked trailer on the road and my car is legally allowed to tow a minimum of 500kg.
  • My car insurance covers me for third party risks whilst towing.
• When the boat and/or trailer, with or without the tow car, is left unattended in any location, I will consider the best level of security to protect the asset from theft or damage, and apply the available security measures including any devices supplied with the boat.
• Damage to the vessel or any of its equipment must be reported to the OGA Gaffling Custodian immediately. Further use of the vessel before damage and defects are rectified must be agreed with the Custodian.
• I agree to the OGA retaining the booking form for the purposes of administering this hire agreement.
• I agree that information may be made available to insurers in the event of an incident which may give rise to a claim.
