'Breathing Life' into Watercolour Portraits - Catherine Beale SWA

Create beautiful, expressive portraits full of colour with an experienced portrait artist. Use more water to generate atmosphere and naturally free up your painting style with one-to-one tuition. On Day One you will paint a friend or family member using your own photo as Catherine introduces you step-by-step to planning light across a close-up head and shoulders portrait. Follow her stepped demos, spreading on loose 'gravity-painted' watercolour washes, building up flesh tones and developing shadow to generate the illusion of 3D before tackling detail. On Day Two there is time to review your portraits and lift off paint to add ‘glow' before working again in watercolour but this time from a life model. Discover tools that help you connect with what you see and assess angles and scale to create several expressive seated studies.
