Autumn Light and Trees in Watercolour - Susan Neale

Experiment with a variety of water-based mediums in the background for a unique, individual painting. All levels welcome. ‘As long as autumn lasts, I shall not have hands, canvas and colours enough to paint the beautiful things I see’. Vincent Van Gogh. The soft light of autumn brings a magical touch to the rural landscape, more suggestion than specific. A perfect canvas on which to explore and experiment with the subtleties of paint. A variety of techniques and skills will be taught during the workshop, such as using the glazing technique, wet in wet, broken washes and sponging. There will be lots of short and helpful demonstrations plus one to one tuition and advice. The workshop will feature how to choose the colour palette, how to produce creative brush strokes, when to work broad and free and when to consider adding detail. Autumn is a special time of year and this workshop will inspire a painterly response to light, composition and subject.
