Working directly from a selection of Summer Fruits, botanical artist Karen Green will guide you through observational drawing; discussing various botanical features to consider, how to successfully show form through shadow and hi-lights and creating cross section paintings of the seeds inside. You will produce a finished botanical painting in watercolour that reflects a botanical understanding of your subject and captures the beauty of the plant.
Karen will ease you into the workshop with a playful challenge, exploring the botany of what makes a fruit a fruit. Leading on from this, she will guide and support you to create a well-composed, detailed observational drawing, using a tonal drawing to guide your shadow work. With one to one support and class demonstrations, you will experiment with watercolour techniques and accurate colour mixing to paint your chosen fruit including leaves or a cross section.
During the session you will familiarize yourself with the materials and tools needed for botanical art and the techniques used, slowly building up layers of paint to create luminosity and depth.
All abilities welcome.
Materials can be provided at £4 per person.
