Community Heat Teams - Distributing Cameras, Establishing Teams, Initiating Action

Are you interested in volunteering to help your neighbours save money on their energy bills, while reducing their carbon emissions, and joining an inspirational project?

If so, please join us!

The East Lothian Climate Hub has successfully secured funding from Scottish Ministers in conjunction with the Tyne & Esk Local Action Group to purchase 8 sophisticated thermal heat cameras to be distributed to communities in Mid- and East Lothian. Our friends in the Borders at Sustainable West Linton have an inspirational model for Community Heat Teams which we are going to scale to our communities. These projects will be really fun way to help your neighbours and connect with others interested in reducing carbon emissions by retrofitting homes.

We are seeking to help communities to build Community Heat Teams around the usage of these cameras in 

• Penicuik
• Garvald & Morham
• Pencaitland
• East Linton
• Dunbar
• Innerwick
• Musselburgh
• Preston Seton Gosford area (i.e. Prestonpans, Cockenzie & Port Seton, and Longniddry)

This exciting and lively event, which may benefit from a Scottish Ministerial visit (we're working on it!) will include

• Tim Crick and the team from Sustainable West Linton going over how they have implemented their project, including guidance on publicising Heat Surveys in your community, creating booking websites etc. to keep these cameras active throughout the winter heating months

• Guidance on how to navigate additional online training for using the cameras, conducting the heat surveys, and producing the data analyses, provided by Sustainable West Linton

• Some hands-on training to familiarise you with the cameras

• Forming teams with your neighbours

• Guidance from colleagues at East Lothian Council on how you may access and help improve data sets relevant to the project

• Round table discussion on attracting more volunteers to this project

• Guidance on what resources house-occupiers can be signposted to following a Heat Survey

• A chance to meet each other and share best practice

• Guidance from us on how you might find additional funding, including resources from West Linton on wording that has been used and costing for different project elements

The event will take place in room G2 of the Fisherrow Centre, South St, Musselburgh EH21 6AT

There is a parking lot located off of South Street in Musselburgh, and the location is easily accessible by public transport.
