Bamff Wildland
Bamff Wildland is nestled in North Perthshire, amongst hills and agricultural landscape. It is also the home to a pioneering rewilding project. Come and hear about their journey of bringing nature back to their land and water ways.
Bamff is a small estate that consists of around 1300 acres of woodland, wetland, pasture and hill. Since Paul and Louise Ramsay took over the estate in the early 1980s, they have gradually rewilded different parts of it. Southern fields have been opened up from sheep farming to become the first new components of the Bamff Wildland Project. Native breeds of cattle and pigs, as well as Exmoor ponies, provide a natural grazing regime and are to be seen roaming through the land.
Bamff estate includes some organic sheep fields, and is looking at the importance of restoring waterways, showing where this particular rewilded landscape meets modern farming.
Bamff previously became known for its fascinating beaver project as well as its abundant wildlife, attracting many wildlife enthusiasts and experts throughout the year. The beaver demonstration project at Bamff, which started in 2002, was the first of its kind in the UK.
Sophie Ramsay, daughter of Paul and Louise, will discuss the ecological change so far, monitoring and research, political barriers and the poetry and emotion brought by witnessing wildness take hold.
