Screening of National Emergency Briefing

The big picture of the climate and nature crisis is that humanity is currently on a deeply dangerous trajectory. The interconnected threats to food systems, health, national security and global stability are no longer distant concerns, but increasingly part of our lived reality. Yet most people have never been fully briefed on what it means for our lives, our economy and our future.

As part of Scotland’s Climate Week, the East Lothian Climate Hub invites you to a special screening of the National Emergency Briefing. This is also known as the People's Emergency Briefing.

This briefing features leading UK experts in climate science, nature, weather extremes, food security, energy, economics and health. It presents a clear, measured overview of how the climate and nature crisis is affecting everyday life, and what the evidence says about the risks - as well as key opportunities for mitigation and adaptation.

With the first Net Zero targets less than 5 years away, and as we pass 1.5°C warming, it is a critical moment, for political leaders, council leaders and community leaders. 

This screening aims to clarify the urgency of the climate and nature crisis for communities and our economy. Everyone who holds a role in helping to shape the future of East Lothian is warmly welcome.

Following the 50-minute film, we will host a 45-minute structured local discussion on what this means for our community, including implications for local preparedness, resilience and long-term planning.
