Safeguarding partners in Sussex are involved in an exciting new pilot with the Home Office which brings decision making about whether children are victims of modern slavery into existing safeguarding structures. The National Referral Mechanism (NRM) is used to identify all potential victims as part of our legal duties under the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and from March 2023 all new referrals will be considered by local NRM decision making panels.
