Supporting LGBT+ Children & Young People
Who is this course for?

This course is for anyone working with, or supporting, children who wants to strengthen their understanding of safeguarding risks, vulnerabilities, and protective factors. It is suitable for practitioners in any role where they may identify, assess, respond to, or support the safeguarding needs of children.

Please note that if you have previously attended a ‘Supporting LGBTQ+ Children and Young People’ training session delivered by Allsorts, you may find the first part of this session covers a lot of material from that session. If you have any questions about this, please email your Safeguarding Children Partnership, who commissioned this course, or speak to the trainer at the start of the session.

Learning Outcomes

If you apply what you have learned in the session, you will be able to:

  • Understand how some safeguarding issues relate specifically to LGBTQ+ children and young people
  • Understand the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ children and young people and the impact of these
  • More confidently navigate LGBTQ+ terminology
  • Feel confident in how to recognise and challenge anti-LGBTQ+ attitudes, language and incidents
  • Examine how to create more inclusive and safe environments for LGBTQ+ people
  • List the services and support systems available to LGBTQ+ children and young people
