Interactive Family Soundscape and Storytelling with mini Sound Bath at St Cecilia's Hall

After the success of the interactive family session in Lochend Woods (Dunbar), The Woodland Faeries are coming to the city of Edinburgh!

Join us to listen, to explore and to co-create a soundscape-story using drums, shakers and other therapeutic instruments. 

STORY-TIME: Bring your favourite teddy or toy to co-create a story together! 

EXPLORE: Through expressive drawing and movement we will feel into the shapes these sounds may look like!

SOUNDSCAPE: Do you have an instrument of your own you would like to bring? Please do!

REFLECT/RELAX: Time out for a mini sound bath where you can lay down or sit and listen to soothing sounds.

A note about tickets/attendance:

Adults that attend are asked to purchase a ticket for £12 to support your child/children to get the best out of the session. Your children go free but tickets are limited to two children per booking. All children must be supervised at all times.

About the facilitators:

The facilitators sprung from the Woodland Faeries who gathered in Lochend Woods on the Summer Solstice. 

Story-time Faerie has a natural and humble gift for creative story improvisation which is child led. She has a sensitive approach in listening and adapting to the children participating in co-creating a story together with teddies and therapeutic sound instruments to create a soundscape story! Story-time faerie is a mystical and whimsical being who is creative, artistic and musical! 

Gong Faerie loves weaving sound with therapeutic instruments such as gongs, shakers, drums, shruti box and voice. She also loves being in nature among the trees, dancing and making music. She enjoys making music and hosting therapeutic sound baths with children and babies with varying needs with their families.

A practical note:

Travelling there:

While we all normally love to travel on magic carpets, broomsticks and unicorns we are going to be in the concrete jungle so we can only walk, take a bus or drive there. There are ample buses that connect with the bridges which is super close and is a reasonable walking distance from Princes Street. Parking is available but it can cost up to £8/hour in some places. 

Buggies:

Faeries can get tired! St Cecilia's are aware of this and have space to accommodate buggies to park inside the building (no responsibility held by St Cecilia's Hall). It it preferred that a limited amount are taken into the event itself. Priority will be given for those travelling in a wheel chair.

Food and Drink:

Food and drinks are NOT permitted in the hall we will be in however there is a space downstairs you where you can.

A more formal note for the curious:

'About' the practitioner: Melissa Bradd formally trained as a therapeutic sound practitioner 2011-2013 with the British Academy of Sound Therapy. Prior to this she completed a BMus (HONS) Degree in 2008 undertaking her finals in music and the community; composition; and research into music, trauma and recovery; and how music can enhance communication with children who are on the autistic spectrum and with global developmental delay. Between 2008 and 2010 she was the Music Specialist for Capability Scotland working creatively and musically with 0-5 year old's and their families. This approach was child centred focusing on the communicative, physical, emotional, and social developmental needs and wellbeing of the baby or child(ren) within individual/group/family contexts, including siblings. Since then she has held therapeutic sound and music sessions within the community. She has over twenty years experience working in social care with adults, children and adolescents who have a range of life circumstances, experiences, social/physical/mental health and wellbeing complex's and abilities.
