Ecofluency online class: Becoming the Voice of Volcanoes

This online class is a response to requests to repeat the Ecofluency workshop I presented recently for Medicine Festival, and follows a similar but expanded framework that I used when facilitating that experience.

Description

Nature has many wise and timeless teachers, but volcanoes are a power unlike any other - the element of fire can burn and transform, but lava, the hot blood of fierce mountains and ocean trenches, sculpts the mineral bones of a planet to birth new continents, and build new worlds.

The timing of this workshop is chosen because the end of October in the Northern Hemisphere is Samhain (the Celtic festival that became Halloween), which is the last harvest festival, Celtic New Year and marks the midpoint between Autumn Equinox and Winter Solstice. In the Southern Hemisphere, it's the midpoint between Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice, when the growth season is fully underway. In both hemispheres, this festival is a powerful portal because the veil between worlds is thinner, allowing one to commune with ancestral guides, spirits and guardians of landscapes more easily.

This timing also means that we can communicate more clearly with the ancient powers who built this world, to co-create a future for our beloved Earth that we can fall in love with.

Pōwhirri (Māori cultural induction) and pilgrimage with Mt Ruapehu, the tallest volcano on the North Island of New Zealand/ Aotearoa, with the Heald family and a group from the Ngāti Rangi, the tangata whenua (people of the land) around Mt Ruapehu.

We’ll flow into a guided journey to meet the deep, ancient forces that created our beloved Earth, to inspire you to create (y)our world anew. We’ll close with a sharing circle (sharing about your experience is optional) and time for Q&A, including non-recorded time for participant sharing.

What is Nature Communication?

Essentially, it's the oldest language that exists.

This inherent ability, sometimes called intuitive or interspecies communication, is a capacity that all humans have, because we are Nature. Since their earliest days, our ancestors knew intuitively how to communicate with all beings, including plants, animals, ancestors, landscapes and more. They were more deeply in touch with Nature, and this is where they got a lot of their knowledge from, such as harvesting plants for food, medicine, fibre for clothing and housing. Even today, this ability is still within us, but many of us have forgotten it because of modern systems and ways of living. Fortunately, it is still practiced by indigenous cultures and spiritual traditions on almost every continent.

Reclaim this capacity helps you easily access the deeper knowledge and wisdom of Nature that is not often available to our everyday human minds, so that you can inform your everyday practical decisions and be truly co-creative and in harmony with all of Life.

Your host

Saskia von Diest, PhD - founder of Ecofluency, an award-winning organisation that offers education and consulting in Nature communication. I'm also involved in academic research and activism within this field.

In 2012, an animal communication workshop during my PhD in Plant Pathology sparked my interest in how farmers use intuitive communication with Nature to inform practical management decisions. From 2014 to 2020, I held two postdoctoral fellowships, at Stellenbosch University, South Africa, and at Coventry University, UK, to investigate intuitive farming as part of a wider new field of subtle agroecology.

Throughout my postdoctoral years, I further developed my own understanding and practice in communicating with trees, animals, landscapes, nature spirits and ancestors. I trained as a Family Constellations facilitator, and in the Way of the Warrior Healer for psychic surgery.

Ecofluency officially launched in 2021, has appeared dozens of times in the media including on TV, and was awarded gold for innovation at the Eco-logic Awards in 2025.

With 16 years of experience in teaching and facilitating, I work internationally with individuals and organisations, online and in-person. I enjoy promoting other human voices in the field of Nature communication, and am a founding member of Nature’s Council and a co-founder of the Organisation for Noetic Ecology.

My passion is creating experiences for humans to reclaim the power of our ancestral skills, joining the conversation with the rest of Nature once again, for personal transformation, planetary well-being and the evolution of our shared consciousness: www.ecofluency.org

I offer three different rates to help make this work accessible. Please choose an amount that you truly can afford (or more, if you wish).

• Normal - £55  (approx. €65 / $75 / R1200)
• Reduced - £45 (approx. €52 / $60 / R980)
• Farmers / beekeepers / students - £35 (approx. €40 / $45 / R750)
• Join again (for those who were at Medicine Festival) - £25 (approx. €30 / $34 / R550)

Payments and donations can be made via Bank transfer, Stripe, Wise, PayPal, or through cryptocurrency.
NB: For bank transfers, I use Wise, an international multi-currency transfer system with zero exchange fees for the payer and very low fees for me (far more cost effective than Stripe and PayPal) - please contact me at saskia(at)ecofluency.org for my bank account details in your country.
