Description
To mark international Dyscalculia Day on 3 March, 2025, EDA is delighted to host this free webinar on Dyscalculia with Professor Marie-Pascale Noël, a leading international expert on dyscalculia and maths difficulties.
Webinar Title: Dyscalculia: an under-recognised disorder
Marie-Pascale Noël has been working on developmental dyscalculia for almost 30 years and yet, when she talks about her work outside her professional environment, people still ask the question: dyscalculia? what is dyscalculia?
In this presentation, we will review the definition of this mathematical learning disorder, and look at the warning signs and criteria for making a diagnosis. We will look at the prevalence of this disorder and, above all, beyond the figures, the impact it can have on the individual's emotional and professional life. We will briefly outline current research into the causes of this disorder. Finally, we will look at the help that can be given to people suffering from this learning disability, in particular, interventions whose effectiveness has been proven.
About the speaker:
Marie-Pascale Noël has a PhD in Psychology with over 30 years' research experience in child neuropsychology, with a particular interest in typical and atypical number development in children. She conducts her research at the university UCLouvain in Belgium, where she is a professor, and she has a mandate of senior researcher at the Belgian National Fund for Scientific Research. She is also the academic head of a psychological consultation centre specialised in child neuropsychology and speech therapy. Her work covers both fundamental research on the subject (she has published numerous scientific articles in international journals) and a desire to improve clinical practice in the field. She has written numerous chapters in collective books for practitioners, developed three batteries of tests for assessing children's numerical skills, and recently wrote a book (with Giannis Karagiannakis) on effective teaching strategies for children with dyscalculia and math learning disabilities.
