We are pleased to announce that Dr Jummy Okoya, Dean of Office for Institutional Equity at the University of East London (UEL), will deliver the University of Cambridge’s 2026 Gloria Carpenter Lecture.

Her lecture, titled: Reimagining Sustainability in Higher Education, will focus on race and intersectionality.

Dr Okoya will bring together insights from Vice-Chancellors, policymakers, and senior sector leaders, and explore the future sustainability of higher education, and the strategic role of equity, belonging, and student success, within institutional transformation.

About the speaker:

Dr Jummy Okoya is the Dean of the Office of Institutional Equity. Her academic work brings together HR and ED&I. She brings a wealth of experience of delivering strategic ED&I projects, developing, and leading executive programmes. Jummy is a nationally leading figure in advocating for more Black female professors and creating a pipeline of Black female PhD students into academia. She is also an Associate Fellow at Oxford University’s Said Business School, and was listed among the top 10 Diversity Allies for the education sector in the UK in 2022; and the top 50 inspirational Black women in the UK in 2019. She was also nominated for excellence in diversity in higher education in 2017.
