Join Edinburgh Ballet Theatre for their magical adaptation of the traditional Christmas ballet, The Nutcracker, suitable for all the family.

It’s Christmas Eve in Victorian Edinburgh, where Clara and her family are holding a party. The party is full of dancing, merriment, and magic brought by the magician Drosselmeyer, who gifts Clara a Nutcracker doll. After the party ends, Clara sneaks downstairs to find her home has been overrun by fearsome rats. Drosselmeyer comes to Clara's aid by bringing the Nutcracker doll and other toys to life, but it is Clara who bravely defeats the rats in the end. Grateful for his rescue, the Nutcracker takes Clara to the Land of Snow to meet the Snow Queen. Angels then take Clara on to the Land of Sweets, where the Sugar Plum Fairy and the Nutcracker host a spectacular celebration in her honour.

Our performances will be held at St Bride's Theatre, Edinburgh on:

  • Friday 12th December at 7:30pm;
  • Saturday 13th December at 2:30pm; and
  • Saturday 13th December at 7:30pm.

Edinburgh Ballet Theatre is an amateur community dance company of diverse, enthusiastic adult dancers from all over the world. Our aim is to contribute to Edinburgh’s vibrant cultural scene and provide a means of expression for adult ballet students to perform from a range of backgrounds and levels of ability in a safe and encouraging space.

The Nutcracker will last ~ 1hrs 45mins including an interval. Please note that our matinee show will be a relaxed performance, which means that the music will be slightly quieter and there will be low lighting in the audience. At our relaxed performance the audience will be able to make noice and move around but are not permitted on stage. Opportunities like this help to make the theatre more accessible for everyone. Babes in arms do not need a ticket, but must be sat on an adult's lap.
