This autumn, Edinburgh Ballet Theatre brings the classic ballet Coppélia to life.

In a town lives Dr Coppelius, a renowned inventor and toymaker. His most prized invention is a doll named Coppélia, who is so realistic that most of the town believe that Coppélia is a real girl. Everyday, Dr Coppelius places her at the window of their house, reading a book. One morning, a young village girl called Swanhilda tries to talk to Coppélia, but gets frustrated when she doesn't respond and starts to storm off. But Francesca, a bright and curious girl, dances for Coppélia. To everyone's surprise, Coppélia starts to dance for Francesca! Swanhilda is so mad, her and her friends start to fight with Francesca and her friends. Later that evening, Swanhilda and her friends sneak into Dr Coppelius's workshop and that's when all the fun begins!

Our performances will be held at St Bride's Theatre, Edinburgh on:

  • Friday 23rd October at 7:30pm;
  • Saturday 24th October at 2:30pm (relaxed performance); and
  • Saturday 24th October at 7:30pm.

Edinburgh Ballet Theatre is an amateur community dance company of diverse, enthusiastic adult dancers from all over the world. Our aim is to contribute to Edinburgh’s vibrant cultural scene and provide a means of expression for adult ballet students to perform from a range of backgrounds and levels of ability in a safe and encouraging space.

Coppélia will last ~ 1hrs 45mins including an interval. Please note that our matinee show will be a relaxed performance, which means that the music will be slightly quieter and there will be low lighting in the audience. At our relaxed performance the audience will be able to make noise and move around but are not permitted on stage. Opportunities like this help to make the theatre more accessible for everyone.

Babes in arms do not need a ticket, but must be sat on an adult's lap.

Tickets are non-refundable, but may be swapped to a different performance providing there is availability. Please email info@edinburghballettheatre.com if needed. Seating is unreserved unless an accessible front row seat is required – note this when you book your ticket and/or email info@edinburghballettheatre.com.
