Webern Langsamer Satz

The concert opens with the fourth in the Beethoven op. 18 cycle, the bold and dramatic C-minor quartet. Sally Beamish’s Quartet No. 2, inspired by this particular Beethoven quartet and written soon after her return from a festival in California, reflects an “opening-up” of her musical language - a light, clear reimagining of Beethoven’s themes coloured by American influences. Webern’s early Langsamer Satz closes the programme in a warmly lyrical, late-Romantic glow.
