Valuing the economic benefits of scientific research

Research providers are under increasing pressure to prove their value for money and report the impact of the information they generate.

We helped several clients with this challenge over the years. We reveal the value chain of their research - the user and uses of the information, and benefits and value that are generated. Applications include the value of corporate carbon disclosures, non-financial reporting, species monitoring, citizen science, marine measurements and more!

In a recent project, we looked at two of the UKCEH’s publicly-funded data platforms, and found that the information provided about one non-native species alone is likely to avoid £10 million per year in management costs. UKCEH and eftec continue to work together to apply the approach to other data platforms and research programmes.
