Masterclass: Martha Graham Technique™ with Lorenzo Pagano

Eliot Smith Dance (ESD) is proud to welcome back Lorenzo Pagano, an internationally recognised dancer and guest principal artist of the Martha Graham Dance Company.

Returning to the North East of England for the first time since 2016, Lorenzo Pagano will re-stage his work Interrupted Souls, an original commission created on Eliot Smith Dance. As part of this re-staging, ESD are hosting a masterclass at Dance City, Newcastle upon Tyne, on Friday 3 July 2026, starting at 9:30am (2 hours). The class will also include a short Q&A with Lorenzo.

Spaces are limited and, with the kind support of Dance City, we have been able to keep the cost of the masterclass low at £10.00 (plus £1 online booking fee).

The masterclass is open to professional dancers and dancers-in-training, and no previous Martha Graham technique experience is required. This is a rare opportunity not to be missed in the North East.

About Lorenzo Pagano

Lorenzo Pagano is an internationally award-winning contemporary performer whose career spans concert dance, theatre, and opera. He joined the Martha Graham Dance Company in 2012, later becoming a Guest Artist and Assistant Rehearsal Director in 2023, and currently serves as Interim Director of Martha Graham Resources.

He has performed many of the most iconic male roles in the Martha Graham repertory and originated leading roles in new works by renowned choreographers including Lucinda Childs, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Nacho Duato, Andonis Foniadakis, Pontus Lidberg, Hofesh Shechter, and Pam Tanowitz, among others.

He has also performed with Paris Opéra former Étoile and Artistic Director Aurélie Dupont in Martha Graham’s Lament, and was appointed Assistant Choreographer for the 2023 holiday event collaboration between Christian Dior and the Martha Graham Dance Company at Saks, New York City.

Mr Pagano was honoured with the Italian International Dance Award for “Male Rising Star” in 2016, and the Premio Nazionale La Sfera d’Oro in 2022.
