IN MOTION (Dance Documentary)

IN MOTION is an intimate new documentary exploring the fifteen-year journey of Eliot Smith Dance and its founder, Eliot Smith.

Directed by Elijah McDonnell, the film offers an intimate reflection on fifteen years of artistic work, collaboration, and regional storytelling through the journey of Creative Director Eliot Smith and the evolution of ESD. Framed around The Cage Shop at Woodhorn Museum — a former mining colliery that has served as a significant creative home for ESD since 2016 — the documentary unfolds across a series of striking locations throughout the North East of England.

As respected arts journalist David Whetstone recently wrote: “A company which has earned its place in the region’s cultural fabric deserves all the support it can get.”

​IN MOTION celebrates the people, places, and creative spirit that continue to shape one of the region’s leading contemporary dance companies.

Ticket holders will receive a link to watch the documentary from 19:00 (BST) on Wednesday, 24 June 2026. The film will remain available until 23:59 (BST) on 28 June 2026.
