Elizabeth Bowen Society Reading Group - The Hotel
Please join us on Wednesday, 29 July, at 7:00 pm (BST) for the next meeting of the Elizabeth Bowen Reading Group, as we return to The Hotel (1927), Elizabeth Bowen’s debut novel.
Set on the Italian Riviera, Bowen's The Hotel, which Diana Hirst (2026) describes as "the most Forsterian of her novels" (78), follows a cast of guests whose encounters, misunderstandings, and shifting attachments unfold over the course of a single season. Though written early in Bowen’s career, the novel already demonstrates her interest in the complexities of human relationships and the emotional undercurrents that shape everyday social life.
All welcome!
