Continuing our 2023 Gallery Music Series, we welcome Manitou Winds to
the Beck Gallery of the Oliver Art Center in Frankfort, Michigan!
Sail away with Manitou Winds on a fantastic summer’s journey where evocative music intertwines with imaginative short stories, legends, and poetry. This eclectic program of traditional works and originals bridges Classical, Celtic, and Folk styles, interspersed with inspiring spoken word to tempt the imagination. The unique spaces of the Beck Gallery, filled with remarkable artworks in a variety of mediums, will provide a creative backdrop to this musical adventure!
Manitou Winds was founded in May 2014 and has become a versatile chamber ensemble of passionate musicians. Seldom performing solely as a wind quintet, they enjoy breaking off into many different configurations aided by the multi-instrumentalists within the ensemble. Chamber music is often described as a conversation between musicians. Performing without a conductor, each instrument contributes its own unique twist and perspective to the central theme while the musicians work together in shifting roles to keep the piece aloft and in motion. Often exploring uncharted genres and shedding spotlight on new or obscure composers, we also invent repertoire through our own arrangements and compositions. Audiences are always assured of hearing unique music not to be found elsewhere.
