Description

The ECSQ closes out its season by teaming with a special guest India Gailey to perform cello quintets. India Gailey is a cellist, composer, and improviser based in Kjipuktuk/Halifax, NS. Named by CBC as one of “30 hot Canadian classical musicians under 30,” India has toured across the Western hemisphere as both a soloist and collaborator, most often in the realms of classical and experimental music. She works frequently with living composers, filmmakers, visual artists, and dancers to create works of interdisciplinary art, and appears as a guest musician on dozens of recordings spanning a wide stylistic array. Following the acclaimed release of to you through (Redshift Records), her latest solo album, Problematica, launched in February 2024 on People Places Records. India is the recipient of numerous honours, including awards from Arts Nova Scotia, the Nova Scotia Talent Trust, the Canada Council for the Arts, Upstream Music, and Acadia & McGill Universities. She loves raspberries, large marimbas, and the smell of burning thyme.
Together, India and the ECSQ will perform Schubert's famous cello quintet in C Major, as well as two *brand new commissions* by none other than India and the ECSQ's Emily Kennedy.
