Performance Rugby Camp

Embley is delighted to introduce a new Performance Rugby Camp for boys in current Years 6 to 8. This three day programme is designed to give committed club-level players a comprehensive, high‑quality development experience both on and off the field. Throughout the programme, students will receive position‑specific coaching, allowing them to refine the technical skills most relevant to their role. Training sessions will also include a strong emphasis on game‑based scenarios, encouraging players to improve their decision‑making under pressure and when to apply their skills in a dynamic environment. To deepen players’ understanding of the sport, the camp will feature tactical awareness sessions. Using a combination of video analysis and interactive whiteboard discussions, coaches will guide students through key strategic concepts, enabling them to read the game more effectively and make smarter choices on the field. A structured strength and conditioning (S&C) block will run throughout the camp to enhance overall athletic performance. Players will learn about the physical movements and gym-based exercises that directly contribute to improved rugby performance, gaining practical knowledge they can carry into their ongoing training. Recovery is also a key focus. Participants will take part in a dedicated recovery block, including pool work, mobility sessions with resistance bands, and the use of foam rollers to support muscle maintenance. Alongside this, players will receive practical nutrition and hydration advice to help them understand how to fuel their bodies for training, recovery, and competitive play.

This camp will be led by Mr. Ben Turner who has a degree in Coaching and Sports Development and over nine years of experience as Head Coach (U18) at Winchester RFC. Players must attend all three days of the programme and each day runs from 9am to 3pm.
