Early Evening Wildlife Kayaking on the Fowey Estuary
Join Cornwall Wildlife Trust and Encounter for a magical evening exploring one of Cornwall's most beautiful estuaries by kayak.
As the day begins to wind down and the evening light softens across the water, we'll set off on a guided paddle through the peaceful upper reaches of the Fowey Estuary.
Accompanied by an experienced Encounter guide and a member of the Cornwall Wildlife Trust team, you'll spend approximately two hours immersing yourself in this special tidal landscape. Depending on the tides and conditions, we'll either venture into the tranquil waters of Penpol Creek or explore the wider estuary around St Winnow and Wiseman's Reach.
This is a wonderful time of day to experience the river. Keep watch for shoals of mullet moving upstream from the sea, herons and egrets feeding along the shoreline, kingfishers darting across the water, and wading birds settling into their evening roosts. If we're lucky, we may even spot one of the estuary's resident seals.
Along the way, we'll pause to learn more about the wildlife, ecology and conservation work taking place within the Fowey Estuary, while enjoying the peace and tranquillity that comes with being on the water at dusk.
After returning to Golant, you're welcome to continue the evening at the famous Fisherman's Arms, overlooking the river — the perfect opportunity to enjoy a drink, grab some supper and share stories from the paddle.
Whether you're a complete beginner or a regular paddler, this relaxed and sociable experience offers a unique way to connect with Cornwall's wildlife and landscapes.
