We begin our Season of Dreams with A Dream of Flight. The centerpiece for this concert is Joseph Schwantner’s Sparrows. Sparrows is dream-like setting of haiku about sparrows, and by extension, flight. It is a major 20th Century composition for solo soprano, sung by Lori Schulman, and futuristic orchestra. Also on this bird-like concert is Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite, a lovely setting of impressionistic fairy tales. We couldn’t do a final season without paying tribute to one of our greatest friends, Lou Harrison. We will perform his Suite for Violin, Piano and Small Orchestra. And to round out our concert we will include an all-time audience favorite, Gabrielle Pierné’s Ballet de Cour.
