Mondays @ The Church 3: Faraway Galaxies
About the series
Words can be powerfully direct, while music is uniquely abstract. Mondays @ The Church is Ensemble Offspring’s free series that unites interactive discussions with new music to explore current social issues in Australia. With four events across 2023 covering distinct topics, each Mondays @ The Church is a melting pot of pertinent ideas and musical premieres, hosted by guest speakers and composers. Featuring 30 minutes of music which directly reflects the poignant theme of the evening, performances are interspersed with lively Q&A's. Peer through the lens of new music from around the globe, and experience the impact of sound and ideas together as they clarify our understanding of the world around us.
About Mondays @ The Church 3: Faraway Galaxies
Our third Mondays @ The Church event presents a world premiere by Melbourne-based noise and improvisation artist Erkki Veltheim. Centred around astronomy, Erkki’s new work will premiere alongside discussions on the Indigenous and Western approaches to stargazing, plus excerpts from a classic work by a modernist master, Stockhausen’s Tierkreis (Zodiac).
Guest speakers
Erkki Veltheim, Robert Fuller and Claire Edwardes.
