Species reintroduction: London Zoo tour and panel discussion
Species reintroduction: London Zoo tour and panel discussion
Need help?
What is the role captive breeding play in species recovery across the UK? How can funders better coordinate their efforts to create a ‘wilder’ Britain?
THE TOUR
From 09:00 - 10:00, there will be an optional tour led by ZSL around London Zoo, focusing specifically on their rewilding and captive breeding work. From Siheks to Partula Snails, you will have a chance to see beyond charismatic megafauna and explore the smaller native species being reintroduced across the UK and beyond.
THE PANEL
From 10:00-11:00, we'll begin the panel and hear from five key players managing, researching and enabling reintroductions across the UK.
Sandra King, Beaver Trust; Steve Micklewright, Trees for Life; Ben Goldsmith, Rewilding the World Podcast; Rebecca Wrigley, Rewilding Britain; Matthew Gould, ZSL
With these experts, we'll be seeking to answer the following questions:
- Is species reintroduction a fast track to creating nature rich landscapes across the UK?
- From captive breeding to public engagement, how does species reintroduction work?
- How do we approach reintroducing predators, such as Lynx?
- What have the consequences been of beaver reintroductions across the UK?
- What role does captive breeding play in species recovery in the UK at scale?
- How can funders better coordinate their efforts to enable a wilder Britain?
