Elevate Professional Practice with the BPS-Approved Epione Level 3 Enhanced Course

Working with people with a history of trauma in challenging systems asks a lot of practitioners, therapist and professionals — emotionally, ethically, and relationally. This skills based Level 3 Enhanced Trauma course is designed to support that reality.

Grounded in a biopsychosocial understanding of trauma, this two-day in person course offers a deep, reflective exploration of developmental trauma and its impact on people involved in a wide range of services.

The course is curated with our new NI lead, Viv McKinnon, and co-founders Dr Dawn Harris and Alex O’Donnell, specifically for practitioners working with complex post traumatic stress and survival adaptations that can also be identified as risks.

This delivery has been thoughtfully curated for Northern Ireland, while remaining fully aligned with the NES National Trauma Training Framework (Level 3) in Scotland.

What the course offers:

Rather than a one-way teaching model, we create a safe, participative learning space where practitioners can:

  • build confidence and shared understanding

  • reflect on real-world practice challenges

  • strengthen trauma-responsive therapeutic practice

  • connect theory to lived experience

Learning is strengths-based and inclusive, drawing on current trauma research and delivered through a blend of:

  • small group discussion

  • experiential reflection

  • case examples from practice

  • multimedia and interactive inputs

An electronic Epione resource pack is provided to support post-course reflection and continued learning.

Who it’s for

This course is for professionals across systems who work directly with people affected by trauma, including:
Police, Social Work, Eduction, Housing, Legal Professionals, Addictions and Mental Health services to name a few.

Group size is intentionally small (maximum 20 participants) to protect psychological safety and meaningful engagement.

Quality and assurance

The learning content aligns with NHS Education Scotland Level 3 and is validated by the British Psychological Society. Independent evaluations have consistently shown increased knowledge, skills, and practitioner confidence following completion.
