Equal Voice - Parent & Carer Transition Talks
Run in partnership with: Fife College, Fife Carers Centre, Circles Advocacy, Ross & Connel Solicitors, Alexander Warren, Fife Social Work, Fife Voluntary Action & Nourish Family Support Centre
Equal Voice are inviting you to a special event. This event is free of charge and aimed at the parents and carers of young people with additional support needs who are transitioning from high school to college, employment or volunteer work.
A Bit of Background
At Equal Voice we have been working intensively with pupils and engaging and training advocates to ensure that young people's individual voices are heard. They are all going through the huge transition of leaving school and going onto college, employment or voluntary work!
Importantly, though, it isn't just the pupils that have to make this transition, it is their families and carers too!
Historically, in schools, we have worked with parents and carers groups to identify and implement a series of face to face talks from other agencies and professionals to provide them with answers to some of the common queries that were causing them some anxiety. For example:
- Their young people were moving from a Child Social Work Service to an Adult one;
- The parents and carers were concerned about what social supports would be available to their young person outside of high school
- Parents and carers needed to know about Power of Attorney and Guardianship and the young people's rights
- The young people were being transitioned to college by the school but the school just didn't have the resources to transition the parents too.
- Young people would like to have a job or volunteer but were unaware of what supported employment and volunteering opportunities were available.
- How do we support our young people to look at and realise their hopes and aspirations?
At Equal Voice, we work in partnership with the young people, school and college, and all the professionals who deliver our transition support talks, and families and carers, for us to ensure that the whole family unit can make the transition from school with confidence, and so that the transition can be looked forward to as an exciting milestone in the young person's journey.
Our Transition Talks are back for 2024 and you are invited to attend!
