To support Education Settings to reach net zero by 2050, East Sussex County Council and the Youth Cabinet are hosting a Climate Change Summit - Our Chance to Change, for Sustainability Leadership and Young People on 25th January 2024 at the Welcome Building in Eastbourne.

We would like to encourage Sustainability Leads, Senior Leadership, Teachers, Estate Managers and Governors to attend the all day event (two places are allocated to each school/college). The 70 children and young people who have contributed to our Climate Change Strategy for Education Setting will also be invited.

The purpose of the summit

Participants will have space to develop their own schools climate action plans by hearing about current best practice. The Summit will also discuss the implications of the DfEs Sustainability and Climate strategy for education and children's services systems. A range of interactive workshops will be held during the day for adults and children and young people. Those include making best use of what schools have, developing a pipeline approach for successful funding bids and bespoke workshops for children and young people.

We know schools and colleges are keen to reduce their energy consumption. They are also very aware that many of the families in their communities are facing fuel poverty and young people are feeling worried about their futures as the climate warms. If we work together alongside children and young people, we will be able to make the necessary changes to tackle climate change.

Venue constraints mean we have a limited number of spaces. We would advise registering as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Two members of staff from the same school can attend the event.
