ESEA Sisters Volunteer Day at Ealing Beaver Project!

Like humans, beavers slow down as winter approaches, conserving energy and preparing for the colder months from the comfort of their lodges.

Join us in West London this November for a hands-on day of exploration at Paradise Fields, Greenford. Discover London’s first fully accessible urban beaver reintroduction site, experience and engage with wildlife and rewilding.

The day will consist of a site tour, followed by conservation work. Volunteers will contribute to the creation of an ephemeral pond through digging, as well as participate in litter-picking on site.

An ephemeral pond is a temporary, seasonal pond that can provide important habitat for wildlife. Creating one is a simple but valuable starting point for habitat restoration, while beavers, as “ecosystem engineers”, can also create similar wetland habitats naturally through their activities.

Accessibility of event

Transport bursaries

As part of our ongoing commitment to accessibility, a limited number of transport bursaries are available for this event.

Apply here by Friday 23 October, and we'll get back to you with an update by Friday 30 October.

Participation fairness

For our nature walks to run as smoothly as possible, we try to determine an appropriate ratio of walkers-to-organisers for each event, based on the complexity, terrain and activities involved. This is why spaces are limited.

To ensure as many members are able to join us as possible, do make sure that you’re available to join us upon sign up. Needless to say, please do not turn up on the day if you haven’t registered.

That said, we understand that life happens, and in the event that you can no longer join us, we’d really appreciate it if you can let us know as soon as possible and cancel your ticket (via the manage order function), so that those on the waitlist can pick up your spot.

Waitlist

For those on the waitlist, when you are notified of an available space, the space will be offered on a first come, first serve basis. If the link takes you to the waiting list again, this means the space has been taken. There is no need to sign up for the waiting list again to be notified if future spaces become available. Please do not e-mail us to ask if there are any spaces left if the status of our sign up page is still “sold out”, this will be accurate.

If you’ve any other questions, do reach out via email (ESEASistersNatureWalk@gmail.com).

What to bring with you and keep in mind

  • As always, terrain may get muddy due to weather, so please ensure you have appropriate footwear that you won’t mind getting dirty, and waterproof layers of clothing – just in case

  • Please also ensure you bring snacks and water to stay nourished and hydrated

How we keep each other safe

  • For each of our events, we have a rough schedule of activities mapped out with designated group leader. If needed, we will communicate via WhatsApp group chat to ensure the group is together and that everyone is okay.

  • We do not share details of where/when we meet will be shared directly with you closer to the date of the walk.

  • By booking this event, you agree to your contact details being shared with ESEA Sisters for organising purposes only.

  • At the beginning of our evemt, we will be doing a short intro and check-in with the group.

*Remember this event is for East and South East Asian (ESEA) women, trans, non-binary, and queer folks only.

Photos and videos will be made as part of documenting this event. These may be used for future ESEA Sisters’ publicity, and fundraising activities, including but not limited to social media. We will be asking all attendees again for their consent prior to the start of the walk. You may opt-out from this by letting us know on the day.

About the organisers: ESEA Sisters

We are a volunteer-led collective of women, trans, non-binary and genderqueer folk of East and South East Asian (ESEA) heritage. Initially formed in 2021, we organise monthly gatherings in nature for our community members to connect and reflect on the importance of solidarity, making connections between community care, climate justice, and collective liberation. With lived experience of racial and gender-based violence, we are learning to reconnect with our bodies, nature and each other, one step at a time.

About Ealing Beaver Project

Ealing Beaver Project is a pioneering initiative bringing Eurasian beavers back to an urban setting while creating opportunities for people to connect with nature. As London’s first fully accessible urban beaver reintroduction site, the project supports biodiversity, restores local habitats and engages the community in conservation.

Launched in October 2023, it marked the return of Eurasian beavers to London for the first time in around 400 years.
