Debate: No More New Homes in Colchester - yes or no?

Sun 28 Jun 2026 4:00 PM - 6:15 PM BST Queen Street Brewhouse, Colchester, 7 Queen St, Colchester CO1 2PG

Is it time to stop building to preserve the character of our town, or can it only get better as it gets bigger?

Join City Councillors Sara Naylor (Conservative) and Tom Young (Labour) and others to debate whether house-building should now be paused. The debate will be chaired by the founder and President of the Toastmasters debate club 104 London Debaters, Paul R. Carroll DTM.

Colchester has added roughly 1,000 new homes a year for the past two decades; growth that’s brought opportunity, but also real strain on roads, schools, GP services, and the loss of much of our “green and pleasant” land.

Should we now draw a line and say enough is enough, or is that simply NIMBYism in a town that still needs homes?

Join us at the delightful Queen Street Brewhouse in Colchester for a pleasant pint and a thoughtful debate on the motion This House Says No More New Homes in Colchester and weigh the balance between growth and preservation. You get to ask questions and give your views during the Q&A session.
