GCSE Music Set Works Day 2026

Classroom session: Comparison & demonstration of the Harpsichord & Grand Piano, led by Dr Silvia Lucas. She will also give performances of the Beethoven Pathetique 1st movement and the Bach Brandenburg No5 3rd movement. Students will be able to have a go playing both instruments, and there will be some practical analysis of these works too. There will also be a performance of Purcell’s ‘Music for a While’, with continuo.

Theatre session: Staging and performance of Defying Gravity from Wicked. There will be a performance of the song from our 6th form students, and some song analysis led by Head of Music, David Lloyd-Mostyn. Students will have the chance to join in the workshop and performance of the song, either on stage, in the pit-band, working on sound/lighting or maybe even conducting the whole ensemble!
