Intro to Watercolor Batik with Kim Gordon
Intro to Watercolor Batik with Kim Gordon
Everwood Farmstead Foundation is proud to present the Artist Workshop "Intro to Watercolor Batik" with Kim Gordon on Saturday, July 12th from 9:30 am - 3:30 pm!
Watercolor batik is a modern twist on the ancient Javanese art of batik. Participants don't need to know watercolor technique or how to draw - just a willingness to experiment with color and design. Batik is one of the oldest ways to create patterned fabric besides weaving together threads of different colors. It uses a fluid pigment or dye and a "resist" - hot wax - to slowly build designs. The instructor will make the process more approachable by using watercolor and Kinwashi, a Japanese paper.
KIM GORDON is a Minneapolis painter, batik artist, illustrator and teacher. She was first introduced to batik during an oil painting residency. Her initial intrigue soon became serious study of this ancient and process-oriented technique. Kim’s passion is the natural world and her years of plein air oil painting have provided a foundation for her work in batik.
