Exeter Quay Heritage & Photography Tour

Join us for a tour of Exeter Quay heritage and photography support. A collaboration between heritage expert Jon Bell and a local photographer, this tour will share the fascinating history of Exeter's quay and harbour, while encouraging participants to practice and enhance their photography of heritage subjects.

The tour will incorporate the following:

• Introduction to the history of the area's development
• Background to the historic buildings on Exeter Quay
• Short tour of the Custom House
• Background to the former industrial areas located around the quay
• Cross over the river via Cricklepit Bridge
• History of Butt's Ferry
• Riverside walk looking at significant structures and buildings
• Tour of East Quay with a description of historic vessels moored there and current activities.
• Kings Sluice - history and description of the Exeter Ship Canal and flood relief structures
• Return down side of basin past Water Sports Association buildings
• Conclude in Piazza Terracina with information about the construction and opening of the canal basin and the decline of the waterway's commercial importance and transference into a leisure facility.
