T37. Filmsoup: Culinary Experiments and Beyond with Carlos Del Rio
In this workshop, participants will engage in a three part structure combining technical theory, hands on experimentation, and practical shooting centered on filmsoup techniques. The workshop explores the creative potential of chemically altering 35 mm film before exposure or development. The first section provides a technical introduction to filmsoup, covering its core principles, development considerations, and the differences between scanning and enlarging. It also examines kitchen based and alternative negative manipulation methods and how they can be combined with other experimental techniques. In the second section, participants will prepare and apply their own filmsoup recipes under guided supervision, translating theory into practice. The emphasis is on understanding how chemical intervention reshapes the visual outcome of the film. The final section consists of a photowalk around the festival grounds, where participants will develop individual projects using film previously processed by the instructor. The workshop concludes with the option of an online session in September for collective review once the films have been developed and scanned.
