What is Visual Facilitation?
If you have ever worked with other humans, you may have noticed how getting a common alignment or a common understanding isn’t always a given. Visual Facilitation gives you a set of tools, skills and practices that help to get clear messages across, provide options for identifying gaps in understanding and summarise key messages of workshops and meetings in a graphical way.

Although we focus on pen and paper during the class, the skills you will learn are platform-agnostic and can easily be transported to paper-less offices by using tablets or other digital drawing devices. Then again, with pen and paper skills, you could also start sketching key ideas during an impromptu client meeting at a bar or coffee place.
What to expect in our two-day visual facilitation training?
You will leave the class with your own poster, ready-to-use for work
or any other situation. Getting there is a testimonial that you have
practised the skills needed to:
- Structure the page so that your key message comes across
- Use the right amount of visual elements to make it clear without being overwhelming
- Use the right container, the right pictogram for a specific situation
- Adjust the use of specific pictograms depending on cultural contexts
- Write legibly, so people can read your notes again (even months after the event!)
- Use containers and other visual elements to organise the flow of your message
- Capture meeting minutes and arrange them graphically on a poster

During the two days of the training, using the bikablo® method for teaching Visual Facilitation, we will start by learning and practising the foundations of drawing as a way to convey messages. There’s a distinct purpose between drawing for artistic purposes where meaning can be fuzzy, undefined or in the eye of the beholder. On the other hand, with Visual Facilitation we want to increase the chances of people getting the right message!
I will take time to walk you through these foundations, and you will have developed enough fluency with these when we start tackling the more advanced concepts like structuring key messages, doing a live graphic recording session and more.
If “learning is a stable change in long-term memory” (Kirschner & Hendrick, 2020), this training will provide you with the opportunities to practice the key skills to get going with visual facilitation in your own context. And if you would like to become proficient at it, you will need to continue using these skills beyond the context of the training (and that’s on you).
Developing fluency starts with rigorous practice.
If you decide to register for this class, I would like you to become proficient and confident in using visual facilitation in your own context. This is why we will spend time to ensure you integrate the key concepts throughout the training. We start by building the basic competencies like holding the pen and drawing clear lines, and iteratively add extra elements to your backpack.
During the training, you will have many opportunities to work on these skills on your own, but also with other participants. This will also give you the opportunities to test whether your message "lands" in a space that is designed for learning.
And you will leave the training equipped with the exclusive bikablo® Starterset. This exclusive item is only available for people who participate in a bikablo training and contains everything we saw during the training (and more!) in the form of two starterbooklets, as well as some pens that will get you going on Flipchart or notebook formats.

Good to know:
I have been running bikablo visual facilitation trainings since 2017
in various contexts and continents. From corporations to start-ups to
working with NGO's, bikablo enables people to use visuals in order to
convey complex messages. It's this experience that I bring to this
training.
You will get a confirmation at the latest two weeks before the training starts.
Cancellation policy
If you register for this training and I need to cancel it for any reason, let me know and we will find a solution. You could join an upcoming session or get a refund. Depending on how close we are to the training date, I may already have paid the venue so you may get a partial refund.
Pricing options? What's with the colours?
I am aware that one of the biggest hurdles to register for a workshop can be the price. Learning visual facilitation using the bikablo method will enable you to apply it in your own context thanks to the appropriate pedagogy. Then again, not everyone has the same financial means and I would like to offer fair pricing for everyone.
This means that anyone registering for a workshop can choose between one of the three colours mentioned below, and they will get exactly the same all-inclusive experience:
PURPLE - This is the standard price. It's the price that was offered before, and is still the base price that enables me to continue offering these workshops at a fair price for me.
BLUE - 80% of the purple price, is more accessible and tailored for less-privileged people.
ORANGE - 110% of the purple price, for people who have more financial means. That price enables me to continue offering the blue price.
