Come and listen to some of the best poets from Yorkshire and beyond at Finding the Words, our relaxed and welcoming online poetry evening.
Nia Broomhall won the 2023 Mslexia Women’s Poetry Pamphlet Prize and her debut pamphlet, Backalong,
was published by Bloodaxe Books in September 2024. She is the current
winner of the Poetry Society’s Hamish Canham Award and holds an MA with
distinction in Creative Writing. Her poetry residency at Painshill Park
in Surrey is supported by an Arts Council England DYCP grant. Her poems
have been widely published and have twice been Highly Commended in the
Winchester Poetry Prize. Co-Head of English at a comprehensive school,
Nia has been teaching for 23 years. She runs poetry workshops in the
community and a happy Poetry Club at her school.
Ralph Dartford was founder of the influential collective, A Firm of Poets who toured nationally with artists such as Hollie McNish, Zena Edwards and Luke Wright amongst other leading spoken word artists. His first pamphlet, Cigarettes, Beer and Love was published by Ossett Observer Presents in 2013. His next collection, Recovery Songs, was published by Valley Press in 2019, and Hidden Music followed in October 2021. In 2024, his 3rd collection for Valley Press, HouseAnthems will be published to complete a trilogy of themed work. Ralph is the poetry editor at www.northerngravy.com and is currently studying for a Creative Writing PhD at the University of Huddersfield. For gainful employment, Ralph works for the National Literacy Trust as a Project Manager within the Criminal Justice department.
Katy Mahon is an Irish musician and poet brought up in London and living in York. Her poems have appeared in various Irish and English journals, most recently The High Window, The Honest Ulsterman and SurVision Magazine. She was New Irish Writing’s featured poet for the Review section of the Irish Independent in February 2022. Katy’s debut chapbook Some Indefinable Cord was published by Dreich in July 2022, and it can be purchased directly from herself or through Some Indefinable Cord KATY MAHON | Hybriddreich Ltd.
