Description
Explore the sounds of nature and turn them into music! Join musician and poet Laura Sutcliffe at York Explore a series of song writing workshops where we’ll create a unique group song inspired by the environment.
This is an informal session designed for neurodivergent teens (including, but not limited to, autism, ADHD, FASD, anxiety). The session is in a private space and teens can take part in their own time and in their own way.
In these sessions, we’ll:
- Create soundscapes using natural sounds like wind, birds, and water
- Discover simple song writing techniques to express ideas about nature and our planet
- Compose a nature-themed song
No previous musical experience is needed—just bring yourself and your interest in the natural world.
This booking is for two workshops, Tuesday 29th October and Wednesday 30 October 11.00am to 3.30pm. To get the most out of the sessions attendees will aim to attend both days.
The workshop is aimed at children/young adults aged 12+ .
Please note: Two adults are facilitating the sessions but attendees will have independence at varying points in the day. Each day has a 30 minute unsupervised lunch break, where attendees are welcome to bring lunch or purchase it from our cafe or locally. Weather permitting we will go into the library garden and/or the Museum Gardens, where groups may go off independently for short periods of time. Groups and/or individuals may also break off into separate spaces within the library, either as part of the session or if attendees need a quiet space.
This session aims to be fully inclusive and a What to Expect sheet will be shared with attendees ahead of the session. When booking please do let us know if we can make any adaptations or provide any information to make this session inclusive for you.
