EXPLORE LABS at Explore York Libraries

Experiment. Design. Create.
Workshops at Acomb, Clifton, Tang Hall and York Explore Libraries for teens.

Love to make, build or experiment? Interested in putting your ideas in motion?

Join us for a series of interesting, hands-on workshops delivered by HYEN, who are on a mission to bring the fun back into STEM. These workshops will get teens building, experimenting, and thinking like creators. HYEN are backed by Innovate UK and UnLtd, and are focused on building a better and more fun way to learn for the makers, tinkerers, and problem-solvers of all ages.

Attend all 5 workshops or dip in and out, the choice is yours. If you do attend all 5 sessions (at any location) you will be entered into a prize draw to win a £15 Amazon voucher!

Sessions are designed for 13-16 year olds, but open to 11-16 year olds.

Magnetronics: Hands-on circuit-building fun!

Using the world’s first magnetic electronics learning kit, proudly created by HYEN and backed by Innovate UK and UnLtd, you’ll explore electricity in an easy, safe and seriously fun way!

Explore how circuits really work. Play with LEDs, buzzers, bulbs and switches.  Learn how current flows and resistance changes what happens. Using HYEN’s snap-together system, you’ll create working circuits with no crocodile clips to get in the way.

In this workshop you'll:

  • Understand the basics of common components, like LEDs, bulbs, buttons, switches and buzzers.
  • Be able to understand polarity and the flow of electronics.
  • Explore the role of resistance in a circuit, and the relationship between voltage and current.

This is where creativity and engineering meet. Perfect for those who love to build, experiment or take things apart.

Please note: you will need to have attended the first Magnetronics workshop on 12 April to be able to attend the second part on 26 April.

If you have any access requirements, please email contact@exploreyork.org.uk.
