BFI Amplified: Limbo (12A) + live oud performance

Screening as part of BFI Amplified; a series of 5 films at Fabrica celebrating the stories, sounds and reverberations set in motion through contemporary youth voices, histories and subcultures. Programmed to run alongside our autumn exhibition One Song by Kadir Karababa.

Join us for a screening of Ben Sharrock’s critically adored Limbo, with a live oud performance by Alaa Wehbi.

Limbo is a wry, funny and poignant cross-cultural satire that subtly sews together the hardship and hope of the refugee experience.

Set on a fictional remote Scottish island, it follows a group of new arrivals as they await the results of their asylum claims. Among them is Omar (Amir El-Masry), a young Syrian musician who shoulders the weight of his past and of his grandfather's oud as he wanders the strange but epic landscapes searching for answers.

About Alaa

Alaa is a Brighton‑based Oud musician and community facilitator. He performs traditional and contemporary Middle Eastern music and has collaborated with Music Action International and Best Foot Music. He also works as a case worker with Refugee Radio, supporting refugees and asylum seekers.
