Olivia Louvel | In the Name of | Public Viewing + Q&A

Fabrica’s September Making Space residency brings artist and composer Olivia Louvel to Fabrica to develop In the Name of, a new sound installation exploring women’s agency over their bodies and the ways it continues to be challenged by political authorities.

The installation features seven speaker-powered, ovoid ‘voice sculptures’, arranged like a cluster of red water lilies - a symbol of resilience and overcoming adversity. Voices emerge randomly from the sculptures, creating an evolving soundscape that interweaves Olivia’s own chant with anonymised accounts from US women whose health has been affected by abortion bans.

As part of the residency, Olivia is inviting audiences to experience the work in two intimate viewing sessions, followed by a short Q&A. These sessions offer an opportunity to encounter the work in development and share reflections directly with the artist as she explores its psychological, spatial, aural and ethical impact.

About Olivia Louvel

Olivia Louvel is an artist, composer and researcher whose multidisciplinary practice spans sound, installation, video, sculpture and performance. Her work explores the relationship between voice, space and sculpture, with a particular interest in what she describes as ‘voice sculptures’. Her work has been presented and commissioned by organisations including Towner Eastbourne, The Hepworth Wakefield, Middlesbrough Art Week and Sound Art Brighton.
