Almost 14 years ago Faces and Voices of Recovery UK brought the first Recovery Month celebration to the UK, emulating what the US had been doing for a decade before. Recovery Rising will be the launch of Recovery Month, this time being held in Scotland For the FIRST TIME highlighting the need to support, develop and invest in Lived Experience Recovery Organisations.
September 1st Woodlands Methodist Church 9am till 4.15
The event will have one agenda - to outline a vision of what our services could look like if we reorientated part of our service provision from the culture of addiction within to a culture of recovery.
The day will highlight the academic & economic argument for lived experiences organisations to be funded in parity & will also mythbust the stigma and prejudicial attitudes towards mutual aid with contributions from Professor Ed Day & Dr Wendy Dosset, Europe's most eminent academics in these areas.
There will also be people generously sharing their personal experience of building successful multi million pound lived experience recovery organisations that change lifes & communities & that will bring to life the academic evidence presented.
The author & documentary maker Darren McGarvey will also contribute & put in context the difficulties we face in being heard in Scotland. `We expect leaders from criminal justice, health, media & politics to be in attendance. The nature of the day will be one of hope & celebration. Please Join us.
