CPD: Teaching Dido (and Virgil's Aeneid)

Professor Ingo Gildenhard will lead a line up of academics to discuss ways of teaching Dido in conjunction with his recent companion volumes (Aeneid 4 and Teaching Dido)

11:45–12:00: Q&A with Elena Giusti on ‘Rac(ializ)ing Dido’

12–12:15: Refreshment Break

12:15–1: ‘In Search of Lost Didos’ (Sam Agbamu)

1–2: Lunch Break (catered)

2–2:45: ‘Tears Translated: The Passions of Aeneid 4 in English’ (Jessi Glueck)

2:45–3:15: Coffee Break

3:15–4:00: Series of stimuli talks (c. 5–10 minutes) by participants on ‘Dido/Virgil in the classroom: ideas and experiences’ (with Ingo Gildenhard)

4–4:30: Final Thoughts

This CPD event is part of a series stretching back to 2015, which is designed to energise the teaching of Classics at all levels by fostering the exchange of knowledge and experiences between schools and universities and combining cutting-edge scholarship with pedagogical initiatives

Who is the event for? 

All teachers and trainee teachers are welcome to attend. The event will be most relevant to you if teach the OCR Latin A-Level specification and/or read the entire Aeneid in translation as part of the Classical Civilisation specification.

Cost 

Tickets to attend this event will be free of charge.

If you teach in a UK state school and would like to apply for a bursary to help with travel costs you can apply to Classics for All -please complete this form:

Once CfA have the completed form they will confirm whether or not you have a bursary.

Please note you must still register for the event separately via this Ticket Tailor page

If approved, Classics for All will cover the cost of 2^nd class train travel or coach/bus, (or mileage @ 45p per mile) up to a maximum of £100 per person, subject to a few conditions:

• Recipients must be teaching in the state sector.
• Recipients should be currently teaching or looking to introduce classics at their school
• Classics for All will require completion of a short feedback form after the event (separate to any feedback requested by the event organisers)
• Costs will only be paid for those who attend on the day.
• All expenses claims must be submitted by 10 days after the event
• Expenses will not be paid until after the event.
