The reception of classical antiquity in modern cinema has long provided fertile ground for academic inquiry. Christopher Nolan’s cinematic adaptation of The Odyssey represents a significant cultural milestone, bringing Homer’s foundational epic to a global audience through a distinctly contemporary lens.

In this special panel discussion, members of the Cambridge Classics Faculty will come together to react to the film. This webinar will explore how the film reframes ancient narratives, the challenges of translating Bronze Age oral poetry into a visual medium, what Nolan's creative choices reveal about our current cultural relationship with the ancient world, and just what our academics thought on a personal level!
